Plan stable service addressing
Reserved IP options for migrations and service continuity
Understand when a stable or reassignable address may simplify failover, allowlists, DNS changes, and planned server replacement.
- Stable endpoint planning
- Failover considerations
- Allowlist coordination
An address can be part of the service contract
External partners, DNS records, and security policies sometimes depend on a known IP address. A reserved or movable address can reduce coordination during server replacement, but it does not by itself create failover or preserve application state.
HostGanga can check whether an additional, reserved, or reassignable address model is available for your service. Address family, location, eligibility, routing behavior, and charges must be confirmed through current plan information.
Migration planning
Separate a public endpoint from one server where supported, then coordinate reassignment and validation.
Partner allowlists
Provide a stable documented address to external systems while maintaining an owner and change process.
Recovery runbook
Define who can move the address, what health signal triggers action, and how split routing is prevented.
Choose the right level of stability
A long-lived server address, an additional IP, a reassignable IP, and a load-balancer address solve different problems. Identify whether you need DNS stability, partner allowlisting, inbound failover, outbound identity, or multiple TLS and mail endpoints before selecting an option.
- Document reverse DNS requirements where relevant
- Check whether reassignment stays within one network or location
- Keep DNS and firewall rules aligned with address changes
Make failover more than an IP move
The target server must have current application data, certificates, secrets, routes, and security rules. Test how existing connections behave and ensure the old node cannot continue accepting writes after a recovery decision.
Reserved and reassignable address options are subject to service, location, and current inventory.
Frequently asked questions
Is a reserved IP included in VPS pricing?
Do not assume inclusion. Check live pricing and ask HostGanga to confirm address availability and any applicable charge.
Can I move the IP to any server?
Reassignment may be restricted by network, location, account, or product. Confirm the exact boundary before designing failover around it.
Does a reserved IP replace DNS?
No. DNS still maps names to services and supports verification, mail, and IPv4/IPv6 choices.
